That's an interesting angle, even though it's different from my issue of duplication of the symbol by having it both in the thread's ticker and in the title.

Of what value is the historical record if nobody finds it? If a stock's symbol changes, it changes. Same for it's name. Should the Phillip-Morris thread remain named as such, instead of its new name of Altria? The Marlboro Man would be lost in a sea of bits, blowing smoke rings in the forest with nobody there to see them. If Fuel-Cell's symbol changed from FCL to FCEL, so be it; we correct the TOC-type entries because it's of no particular import that that symbol was previously FCL. If there is some import, then it would have undoubtedly been addressed in the thread's contents.

It gets a little dicier if there is a merger our buy-out. ASND remained as such, since it ceased to exist when acquired by LU. However, at least one USRX thread retained USRX in the title but had it's ticker change to COMS because the thread continued and it was appropriate to show the COMS symbol for quote purposes. That title wouldn't have been touched in my scenario because the title contained the ticker USRX instead of the name US Robotics.

Then we have the issue of wasted quotes from our fixed allotment because of invalid ticker symbols....
