Meet the Newest Member of the Faculty. This is a fascinating quirk of our home-grown intelligencia, that they adore violent criminals -- you know, those "political prisoners." Norman Mailer got Jack Abbott (who wrote "In The Belly of the Beast") out of prison because he thought he was such a great talent. Instead of writing another book, Jack promptly committed another murder, a waiter (and husband and father) who had annoyed him. Then there are the liberal women who line up to marry death row inmates. Death row gets better results than a dating service. And prison is now a short-cut to becoming a college professor. Is this a great country, or what?
