Agustus, Your point is correct to a certain extent...but, the fall is primarily due to the Balance of Payments deficit as well as the Budget deficit... both expanding with little end in site... Greenspan is in the worst of all squeezes...anything he does now is going to have huge detrimental impact on GLOBAL economy...and BTW...most of what the US manufactures is composed of parts produced overseas...a dollar decline actual impacts our manufacturers as they must cover the ever-increasing costs of whatever they produce...just look at the 10Ks of F or GM... And I believe Scowcroft explained Bush1's reasoning for cease of operations in Iraq... (also in Bush1's book, his own words)...no exit plan...we become occupiers and don't have the capacity to do it, nor the ability to ever succeed... I like your reasonings on this thread...just thought I'd provide a few of mine...have a good day.. Tonka
