Plenty of imperial enterprises have not been especially bloody, even more in the light of the violence restrained through better civil order. Plenty of countries became independent without massive violence. There is nothing in the post- colonial tendency towards corruption and disorder to suggest it is the legacy of imperialism, rather than a stage of political evolution that some of these societies would have passed through anyway.
