I am no apologist for Osama bin Laden, but I think we should try to remember that he was our guy! A CIA operative who honed his fighting skills working for our side against the Russians in the war in Afghanistan, fully funded by our very own tax dollars. I think it is important to remember this because, really, the U.S. government does a whole lot of harm all over the world, and then we seem surprised when our karma comes back on us.

Saddam Hussein was a psychotic rapist/killer who liked death up close and personal--got a thrill out of it. Osama bin Laden believes he is fighting for good in the world. When the U.S. sided with the Israelis against the Palestinians we took a course that put us in conflict with Islam and their idea of honor. We invaded what they consider their region of the planet. I think we should remember that 9/11 is the not unpredictable result of conscious American foreign policy decisions, not just the work of sadistic killers. We are all responsible for our foreign policy to some degree, since our votes determine who are leaders are.
