And for old times sake..

And just to remember ALL the present and past miners out there, including MY DEAR father, for what they did for this society at the lowest possible conditions, wages, etc.. for the maximum of ALL.. These men, these people worked, struggled, sacrificed, for all those NOW PRESENT..

And those that TAKE for granted, their health benefits, their vacations, THEIR WORKING CONDITIONS, their retirements, etc.... What the Hell can I say.. TO a two-bit conservative white collar worker, private or public, that NEVER gave THANKS to those that PAVED your damned path..
Except THINK..

RED HILL MINING TOWN LYRICS U2
EDIT / RATE / PRINT

]from father to son
The blood runs thin
Our faces frozen (still) against the wind
The seam is split
The coal face cracked
The lines are long
And there’s no going back
Through hands of steel
And a heart of stone
Our labor day has come and gone
And you leave us holding on
In red hill town
As the lights go down
I’m hanging on
You’re all that’s left to hang on to
I’m holding on
You’re all that’s left to hang on to

The glass is cut
The bottle runs dry
Our love runs cold
In the caverns of the night
We’re wounded by fear
Injured in doubt
I can lose myself
I’m holding on
You’re all that’s left to hold on to

And we scorch the earth
Set fire to the sky
Stoop so low to reach so high
A link is lost
The chain undone
Now we wait all day
For the night to come
And it comes
And it comes
Like a hunter (child)
I’m hanging on
You’re all that’s left to hang on to
I’m hanging on to
You’re all that’s left to hang on to
We see love slowly stripped away
Our love, has seen a better day
I’m hanging on
You’re all that’s left to hold on to
I’m holding on
You’re all that’s left to hold on to
See the lights go down on red hill town
See lights go down on red hill town >>>>>

You won't get any disagreement from me on the liberal/conservative issue, Coug. I think liberals are more idealistic, are more motivated to do good in the world, and have more compassion for the poor and the sick and the weak than conservatives do.

And most important, they don't believe that it is their right to take advantage of those who aren't as smart or well connected, or rape the earth's resources for their personal gain.

I would actually be ashamed to be a conservative--I'm not sure why some people are actually proud of it. Ann Coulter's father was an attorney whose specialty was union busting for large corporations--can you imagine doing something like that for a living? Very different world view . . .

Bono's father was a bus driver in Dublin, a gifted tenor with no advantage in life--a common man who lost his wife when Bono was a teenager. I think you can hear the drudgery and loneliness in Red Hill. One of the things I especially like about U2 is that they are motivated to do good in the world. Thanks especially for sharing that song--one of my favorites.
