Small perhaps, but statistically significant. It is vitally important to realize that those who would self-select themselves (or be placed here by manipulators of various flavors) are an elite subset of the American electorate. Thus, on SI we probably had well over a 90% turnout in the Nov. 2 election, and by my calculation Bush won the SI vote by somewhere between 88% to 95% of the total participants on this board. There is a vocal minority who don't see George Bush as being fit for office, but we are clearly in a minority. Extrapolating from SI into a broader realm, I just examined the results in my county. This is located east of the Cascade Mountains in Oregon and clearly is overwhelmingly in favor of George Bush. By a margin of 4:3. Re: I'm more concerned about respectable people I know in everyday life. Clients of mine, for example. They voted for Bush just to keep their taxes low. That is exactly the sort of thinking that people here locally engage in. In Oregon, there is one certain way to defeat any measure. If it will raise taxes by one cent, any initiative is going down to defeat in any county other than Multnomah, which is progressive Portland, OR. *** Re: God, don't they realize the chimp is destroying the value of the dollar? No, they do not. They are not that smart. This is really quite remarkable to me, since I remember very well the inflation of the late 1970's and early 1980's and the devastation it created. Devastation that was created by the Republican FRB head Arthur Burns who printed vastly too much money in attempting to ease the skids for Richard Nixon's re-election in 1972, setting the stage for a decade of inflation, and Republican Paul Volcker who took extremely draconian measures and destroyed Jimmy Carter's presidency. Some interesting and mostly factual commentary here: huppi.com *** Re: I think we're seeing the possible death of democracy here in the U.S. Agreed. And we have the word of an eminant scholar to back us up on this: tinyurl.com There are many other who see this clearly. The imperial dragoons are now mercilessly slaughtering the "infidels" in Iraq, days after they've been "baptised and born-again(TM)". We are, well and truly, the most evil nation on the planet today. A despicable and evil leadership leading a tribe of purpose-bred morons who can carry guns and who do not have to think about morals. Could this get more perfect? Or what? *** Re: It's quite likely, though, that the chimp will overstep his welcome and alert the public to his being a warmongering fanatic. Oh, no. Please see my comment above. We now have a nation of purpose-built morons. They are not going to be overly troubled that their so-called leader is a criminal thug who aspires to match the record of Adolf Hitler or Joe Stalin as the most reprehensible man of the millenium.
