It is vitally important to realize that those who would self-select themselves (or be placed here by manipulators of various flavors) are an elite subset of the American electorate. Thus, on SI we probably had well over a 90% turnout in the Nov. 2 election, and by my calculation Bush won the SI vote by somewhere between 88% to 95% of the total participants on this board. There is a vocal minority who don't see George Bush as being fit for office, but we are clearly in a minority. Extrapolating from SI into a broader realm, I just examined the results in my county. This is located east of the Cascade Mountains in Oregon and clearly is overwhelmingly in favor of George Bush. By a margin of 4:3. Re: I'm more concerned about respectable people I know in everyday life. Clients of mine, for example. They voted for Bush just to keep their taxes low. That is exactly the sort of thinking that people here locally engage in. In Oregon, there is one certain way to defeat any measure. Devastation that was created by the Republican FRB head Arthur Burns who printed vastly too much money in attempting to ease the skids for Richard Nixon's re-election in 1972, setting the stage for a decade of inflation, and Republican Paul Volcker who took extremely draconian measures and destroyed Jimmy Carter's presidency.
