The above are examples of killing in order to stop a harm from occurring, they are not supposed to be "examples" of anything. The state, on the other hand, has killers locked up in cells where they could remain for the rest of their lives. There is no imminent threat. When the state kills it is killing as an example. I know it's nice to ball things up that really aren't related, but your logic is off on this one.

You want to have the state to kill people to show us all how society has a reverence for life. IMO you just ought to accept the irony implicit in that, because it is there. Arguing the irony just makes the whole thing more silly.
