The only problem is that their numbers seem to be increasing faster than we can kill them. From a "few members of the old regime", as Rumsfeld characterized them last year, the insurgency has grown to a force of thousands.

America had a window of opportunity immediately after the invasion to prevent the insurgency from gaining traction. A series of amazing blunders, however, caused Iraqi's to turn against America. For example, disolving the Iraqi army put 400,000 armed men out of work. Banning the Baath party put tens of thousands more out of work - including people such as kindergarden teachers whose Baathist connections were minimmal. From there it went downhill - and the spiral continues.

The only thing that works is to kill them, which is what we're doing.
