Jefferson did what I also did before I ever heard of Jefferson's Bible -- he read the Gospels for what JC actually said, and rejected anything that was inconsistent with what JC actually said

That's an amazing talent to be able to identify what "JC actually said" from the body of the text. So, are you an adherent of the Graf-Wellhausen JEPD documentary hypothesis? You are aware that higher criticism produces laughable results when applied to texts such as Shakespeare's writing? Or is this Jefferson's preferred method, tossing out all of the Pauline writings as well as editing out anything in the gospels that didn't fit into his rationalist procrustean bed?

It's obvious to anybody who is using logic and reason that what Jews meant, and still mean, by "Messiah" is someone who will restore them to temporal power similar to what they had before the destruction of the Temple.

Oh? And using your power of logic and reason the suffering servant of Isaiah is about what, exactly?
I find that logic and reason work best when they have a knowledge of the subject at hand. As for what Jews "meant, and still mean" I'd suggest you read an historian of Jewish thought, such as Jacob Neusner. You'll discover that Judaism reinvented itself during the Talmudic era. 1st century Judaism was still largely based on old testament writings, by the 5th century the Talmud had achieved supremacy. To maintain that there is a line of continuity is an anachronism.
