It's a solution but I don't see a problem.

Yes, it appears from my user-oriented perspective (as opposed to Dave's behind the scenes vantage point) that the real problem is the arbitrariness [yes, that's a word] of how threads are named, something SI has no control over-- and thus something you either monitor like a hawk for consistency or just leave alone.

There are several issues involved.

(BTW, LNG would remain LNG since it's an acronym for the subject of the thread, Liquefied Natural Gas, not a stock symbol.)

I was originally addressing was the maintenance burden created by having symbols in the title. The use of symbols in company-specific threads (which is all we are talking about) was made worse by the fact the at some point a about three years ago the old subject search broke and would not list many threads by their ticker, so thread originators started putting the ticker in the title. Search works now, by title and/or ticker, so it seems reasonable to clean some of that up, because...

It has also been requested that users have the option of sorting pages like SubjectMarks by either Ticker or Title, which is all the more reason to not have thread titles begin with the ticker.

Everyone has their own preference; I'm just exploring ways ways to enhance the ability for everyone to get what they want without preventing the same opportunity for others. Discussing it here allows differing points of view get factored in to any potential resolution, assuming there is one. <g>
