You can't be enemies with (almost) your biggest creditor -- although it's nice to pretend you could <g>

If I haven't recommended The Pentagon's New Map to you, let me do so now.

Barnett has an interesting story -- he started working with Cantor, Fitzgerald, the bond trading company that was so devastated by 9/11, many months before 9/11. Cantor, Fitzgerald had their offices on the top floors of the World Trade Center, above the plane strike, and were unable to get out.

He used to attend meetings at Windows on the World, the restaurant at the top of the WTC, where they would game plan future scenarios. Was scheduled to have one only a week or two after 9/11. There but for the grace of God, and luck . . . .

Anyway, it appears that he learned a lot of insight into global financial markets that most Navy War College geeks and other military geeks don't have.

He and his wife recently adopted a Chinese girl baby, and he's very pro-China.

I think you will find the book interesting. He'll be on C-SPAN next week, I will try to remember to post the date and time -- it's still uncertain.
