This is a dire warning ... and everyone you speak to about it should take you seriously. I've planned for ZERO Social Security in my retirement. My challenge will be holding on to enough to protect my own family during the coming burst of the credit bubble. The fact that there is 4 TIMES the debt of M1 is very frightening. I'm atypical - I spend far less than I make and I eschew credit (though I'm holding some pretty sweet 30 year paper on my house.) I hope the "American Dream" is not as dead as you say.

BTW, Sun Tzu, your namesake is the author of one of my favorite books on the human condition. Perhaps, ironically, so is Machiavelli, but I think he was sorely misunderstood. In the the Art of War, the topic is about establishing relationships and avoiding war, finding the reasons people would do you harm and diffusing them. We don't see much of that these days, do we?
