It is true young Chinese physical science majors are very subject-focused, but not most. I think cultural and language barrier plays an important role here too. I know some very successful Chinese physical scientists who have lived and worked in the US for more than a decade but still speak broken English<g>. As you know, science and language are processed by different parts of the brain, and for some Chinese men, the divide bet. the right and left part of the brain is so huge<g>.
