Wouldn't it be nice to have any city in the USA where you could actually walk without checking your back?

San Diego is pretty much like that unless you really look for trouble and challenge your fate by hanging around in dark and remote places where some people violent out of need or drive may wait for you.

In Pan Am training school in Miami back in the 60s the girls learned a few useful things like "when checking in to your hotel room, first leave your suitcase in the door keeping it up, check bathrooms, closets and behind all curtains for anybody hiding and only then close the door". Still at Pan Am robberies and rapes were reported. Happened to a Japanese friend of my wife on her first trip to Guam, she never flew again.

But all of this is quite different from encountering an indiscriminate walking Kamikaze bomb coming from nowhere on his way to his 72 virgins.
