Actually, I purposefully eliminate the extremist portion. I used to say "radical" Muslims or "extremist" Muslims or "fringe" etc.

But since 9/11, I started reading about the culture in the Middle East and how they have exported their culture of hate all of the world. Then I started to drop the adjective in favor of the noun alone, because it more accurately reflects what is going on in the world.
