I'm not holding my breath.> CB, I was saying that jfred shouldn't leap from logic to God in a single bound, without defining exactly what he meant by 'God' which usually comes wrapped in a human-centric meaning, complete with temporal benefits to be gained by supplicants [such as a new TV, a cancer cure, a victory over Osama or the Infidels]. I wasn't scoffing at the idea of a God created in our image, though I discount that as unlikely just as I discount the likelihood that you have green elephants in your yard even if you have a High Priest who assures me you have. My point was that I want evidence which fits with what my perceptions tell me is reality. Most people find causes interesting. Discussion helps clarify ideas and pass on information. Unfortunately, religion is used as a basis to form the Roman Empire style of life, with an absolute ruler who will use all violence to maintain supremacy and Papal Infallibility, which as you suggested, seems to conflict totally with the underlying premise that Mr Christ was reported to promote = a completely democratic integration of all people as units in the big picture. I agree with that idea and see the tribalistic, territorial, genocidal, alpha-male dominance hierarchies under which most people still live as being only fit for the nature channels in the Darwinian dog eat dog biological realm. It was ironic that Rome became the centre of Christianity, based on absolute power, after the founder was murdered and Christians apparently formed bloody entertainment in the Colosseum. Even now, Rome is the centre of the Catholicism branch of Christianity, with the Pope as Numero Uno Infallible boss, which seems an odd approach to the original Christian idea as I understand it.
