100 per cent of the Yukon's population depends on the Yukon remaining the Yk. I think 50% is reasonable. The yk is very small now. There were/are about 500 placer mining ops in the Yk. Average op has to make at least 200K a year to support equip. If 5,000 people leave the Yk, the icing goes off the cake. I will admit most of the cake will be left, but few will want to eat it in time. The Yk-Pelly has mine ops in it and benches nearby. Direct discharge in the the YKP is no longer possible. A short distance downstream of the headwaters the YKP goes into clay terrane and takes on a heavy sed load.
