Diplomacy caused Gaddafi to disarm, not Iraq.

You really have to admit that if US actions had nothing to do with it, then there was an extraordinary coincidence of timing involved.

As I have said before (and doubtless will say again), diplomacy becomes vastly more effective when it is backed by a credible threat of force.

Can you say afterwards, "diplomacy achieved the result"? Of course you can. But other factors besides diplomacy were in play. Sanctions are one factor. Threat of outright regime change by force is another.
