The thing I find interesting about the merger is that Ian Telfer is to be the CEO and he has made it clear that he is interested in increasing production by buying other companies. The last I heard him talk he wanted to make three different acquisitions of companies producing 200,000 oz per year. If this deal goes through, he will be working with a larger treasury. It could be very beneficial for the sector.

Both McEwen and Telfer have said that they are large shareholders in their companies and they are interested in increasing value for the shareholders. Both have done that over the last number of years. With a few more transactions they could end up creating an interesting company.
