Present day Iraq is a misfit geographical unit put together by the colonial British a century ago. Saddam kept it together by brute force, putting down rebellions with methods we Americans cannot and should not use.

The problem is that the Sunnis feel threatened by an election, fearing that the majority Shiites will take control and exact revenge for the many injustices perpetuated on them over the decades by Saddam and his Sunni henchmen.

The solution? Split Iraq into three new countries. The Kurds in the north would be delighted to be free, the Shiites would be happy enough to be distanced from the Sunnis and the Sunnis would no longer fear being a minority in their own country. If the Sunnis, who are causing us the most grief at the moment in the "Sunni Triangle" wish us to leave, we leave. If the Kurds and Shiites wish us to stay in their areas for a transition period, we stay. If not, we hand them the keys and leave.

The whole idea behind this war, or rather the second idea after the first (WMD) didn't hold water, is freedom for the Iraqi people. Let's give it to them.

So your solution is what? Cut and run?
