Don't think anyone will complain about that.

I grant that ratings of any sort are a double-edged sword. On the one hand there will undoubtedly be some who will view them as a game and attempt to to drive some inane thread to the top. On the other, they could be very useful. Think of the very active threads that contain some useful nuggets. Short of reading every post, how can one find the key posts?

Just the same way Google has made the web much more useful by ranking pages, so too could SI make the SI community more valuable by doing something similar. Sure Google's ranking is subject to manipulation to a limited extent, but that doesn't make them throw up their hands and turn off their machines.

Imagine the "top 50" posts of the day. Even better, imagine the "top 50" posts of the day customized to your interests - perhaps by including rankings only by persons you have selected, or by people they in turn have selected.
