in general my experience has been when any party stays in power too long they tend to be complacent and corrupt.

They spent too much time and got too much publicity on social issues. For instance, they were in the forefront of the movement to push a law through requiring conservative professors to be hired. A good move, but not something you want to hang your hat on. It's as if the Dems had spent their time on gun control.
