We have a copy of our family tree traced back to the Revolutionary War by a local historian in westmoreland county Pa. My ancestor was a Hessian soldier, captured at the battle of Trent. Was a POW when the war ended he was offered a land grant in then called Allegheny county which was all of Western Penna. then and indian country. Theory was the Hessians, being professional soldiers would kill off the indians, but in the process be mostly killed off by the indians and the English could move in and take over a land free of indian danger. My ancestor survived and for a couple hundred years most of my family lived in and around Greensburg, Pa. Local cemetery there filled with relatives. jdn

I've suspected one of mine did as well. The Hessians were hired to come and help the Americans fight, and many of them liked what they saw in this new country, they came to stay here permanently. What really ought to happen for the US is that all Religions that celebrate Festivals, Religious Holidays, etc during the Winter Solstice time, should be allowed to do just that...Celebrate them! All citizens would know and understand much about each other if we did that.
