I have just associated Arab and Muslim because in some cases I think that the religious ideology is paramount, and in other cases it is nationalism. The locus of resentment and turmoil is mainly, though not exclusively, Arab.

Most "Arab nations" trace their independence all the way back to the end of WWI and the breakup of the Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman Empire wasn't exactly Arab, either, given that the Ottomans were actually Turks. Your definitive gloss of "history" seems to be pretty much in line with the usual "facts and logic" style that rules among the faithful.
