"Could you provide a url that specifically deals with killing whole herds of buffalo?

I live right by an old buffalo jump and I can show you the bones if you like...

"But a necessary hell. The bison, which once roamed the North American plains in countless numbers, were central to the native way of life. Its flesh was food, its hide clothing and tipi covers, its dung fuel. But each buffalo weighed more than 800 kilograms (1,760 pounds), could run at 50 kilometres (or 30 miles) and hour, and upwind could easily detect one of those untrustworthy human beings. Killing bison required ingenuity. In the days before the introduction of the horse, buffalo jumps – of which more than 100 have been found in North America – were the most efficient way of harvesting herds."

"I think if Indian hunting were really threatening species, Indians themselves would regulate the hunters' behavior, since their tribes are collectives and it is in their self interest."

Indians would have eventually driven the buffalo to extinction themselves at some point with over population and over hunting we just did it a lot faster. As far as Indian self interest the tribes from my own experience are as greedy indidually and collectively as anything in white culture.

You don't help Indians by putting them on a pedestal, they're not evil or golden, they are just human like you and me and if you want to play the Oh, Indians are soo special game they will be happy to lead you down the garden path to the next subsidy or grant and this does not help them at all.

I bought on the weekend a very unique piece of sculpture by Robert Jerome for a Christmas present.

"The number of Indians in law school is growing..."

What about the number of Indians in medical and engineering school? That would be an indicator of hope. Here in Canada an Indian law student does not need to study torts because their culture never recognized them. How does that bode for him/her hanging a shingle out to practice law? What large law firm would hire an Indian with a handicapped education?

"...as is the affluence of some tribes."

I personally don't think affluence via gambling casinos is real affluence
