We have a chicken and egg situation. We were talking about this yesterday. At this point I don't see how we can know who threw the first punch. It's not constructive to escalate the hostility by constantly referring back to that. But the extremists on both sides, who are controlling the national dialog, are stuck in a spiral and have no way to break out of it. I'm sure there is a way to work it out if everyone would just be reasonable. This is really not all that difficult in the grand scheme of human problems. Or it wouldn't be with some good will and critical thinking. Both of which seem to be in short supply.
