Well, under Saddam there were 1 million Christians in Iraq. The thing I object to is the sheer amount of disinformation on the part of the seriously lazy media. It's ridiculous to think that al-Sistani wants anything even approaching the US idea of 'secular.'

Under Bush, Iraqi women are going back under the veil out of sheer fear. Whoever thought that the effect of Bush would be Taliban-like? Iraq is going BACKWARDS into fundamentalism under Bush. Whazza?

I agree. Israel isn't a 'democracy' it's getting to look like the old South Africa. As I understand it from friends who have been there, Israel is quite secular. The US is much more religious than Israel.
