(There's a "yahbut" here....)..Totally agree with that, CB. That would be nice, and also perfectly legal, as long as government did not fund the celebration.

The problem really isn't the Winter and Christmas Holidays....It's the entire education situation we find ourselves in today, on teaching the children about both past events and current events in countries in the world, as well as in the US.

Should we, as a society, NOT teach any history, past and present events, to the kids?

How can kids become educated adults if they have no sense of what has happened in the past to citizens in every country of the world? How can they have any sense of our environment unless they have an understanding of our environment as it was in the past? etc etc etc.

And yet, WHO is teaching the kids what? Many teachers have had some form of government financial help in their education, and many have attended state supported schools. Taxes help to pay for those schools and those teachers. Who is making the decisions about what to teach them?

Should we NOT teach students about Iraq, Iran, Greenland, Russia and all its changes over the years, China, Australia, etc etc....As well as each of our United States and their history, both alone and collectively....

How does one teach history and forget religion in all of it's various forms? So much of the world's history has seen religion, (natural and man-made) as instrumental in what happened to various societies in various countries of the world.

I see on CNN that "Anderson Cooper has a program entitled: >>>>>>"Why are Americans so disliked in the Arab world? Anderson examines the war of ideas. "<<<<<<<

What would the Arab world think if someone else had a program on >>>>"Why are Arabs so disliked in the US? (someone else) examines the war of ideas." <<<<<<<

If people have not learned history, how would they know anything, other than the latest greatest TV pablum?

What should be done?
