I think if you calculate what 1974 oil embargo prices were for gasoline per gallon, in 2004 dollars, you would find the hurt point for SUV drivers. Without doing the calculation, I'd bet that its about $5 a gallon or more.

Well, I guess if someone can afford $50,000 for a Hummer a $200 a month for gas isn't a problem. We happen to have two vehicles, a pickup truck for my business and a Honda Civic for my wife. We fight over who gets to drive the Civic!

I'm not offended... I've been called worse. The problem I have is that I don't think the Liberal or Conservative tags fit anymore, at least to 90% of the population. How else can you explain Bush, who calls himself a Conservative, spending money and running deficits like a damn Liberal. Do Conservatives implement prescription drug plans for seniors without a clue how to pay for it? How about the new Senate Minority Leader, a Democrat and therefore a closet Liberal in the eyes of Conservatives, being against abortion and gun control?

Bush started tossing the terms around to pander to his right wing base and now they are obstructing rational discussion of the issues.

I do recall you taking a bit of an exception when I referred to you as an "incorrigible conservative'. ;-)
