Viable? Valid, perhaps. I don't think you're so old we need to worry about viability. ;-)

Seriously, I don't question your recollections or your opinions of Fonda's and Kerry's actions at the time, just your stating it as FACT that they were heroes and your implication that all (or even most) lauded them for their actions.

As for reconciling views on historical events, there are many perspectives on most anything important in history. As Napoleon said, "History is the version of past events that people have decided to agree upon." Or as others have said, the winners write the history books. ;-)

Actually, I prefer Francis Bacon's take on history:
"It is the true office of history to represent the events themselves, together with the counsels, and to leave the observations and conclusions thereupon to the liberty and faculty of every man’s judgment."
