Disgrunted U.S. soldiers complained to Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld on Wednesday about the lack of armor for their vehicles and long deployments, drawing a blunt retort from the Pentagon chief.

Why is this incompetent, presumptious autocrat still in his job?

Its beyond amazement. He was the butthead who said the war would be over in 5 days, 5 weeks or 5 months......no more than that. Now approaching its third year, is their no accountability? And his remarks are galling:

""Why do we soldiers have to dig through local landfills for pieces of scrap metal and compromised ballistic glass to up-armor our vehicles?" Wilson asked.

The question prompted shouts of approval and applause from the estimated 2,300 soldiers assembled in a hangar in Kuwait to hear Rumsfeld.

Rumsfeld hesitated and asked Wilson, an airplane mechanic, to repeat his question.

"We do not have proper armored vehicles to carry with us north," Wilson said.

Rumsfeld said the Army was prodding manufacturers of vehicle armor to produce it quickly, but noted, "You go to war with the Army you have, not the Army you might want or wish to have.""

The above comments should be sent to every American household so that they fully understand what an insensitive ignoramous Rumsfeld is.

I totally agree. Without Rummie and his "slim approach" (=lower cost...) desktop theory approach to the Iraq attack, the Powell doctrine probably would have prevailed:

Enough troops had been lined up ready to move in after the first wave to fill the void of Iraq military and police forces taken off duty. Furthermore the existing Iraq security forces would have been recycled and kept in office.
Thus the bad "Fundamentalist" driven guys would have been repelled when trying to move in (Tejek, I am improving, right? Didn't say "Muslim"...).

A main problem with Bush: he had some great and some lousy advisors. Just like Reagan. The difference: Bush decided to listen to the wrong ones where Reagan proved his statesmanship talent by picking the right ones and trusting them. Other than that, none was any brighter than Kerry IMHO. But Reagan was smarter and that takes him to history as a truly great man.
