<<What I would really like to see is the elemination of tenure and Teacher's Colleges.>>

FWIW, teacher's colleges used to be called normal. We had Illinois State Normal University which the town of Normal formed around. Now it has become ISU at Normal since they dropped the major thing about being a teacher's college.

I'll join you in your quest to eliminate tenure. Tenure was instituted to protect a professor against those forces out to censure his thoughts and his research. Tenure provided him an ironrclad security blanket so that he could continue to think unimpeded and to research without fearing for his future security.

Tenure has, however, become a refuge for the incompetent. It has come to insure one that once attained, he need never think again or protest again or for that matter teach again unless of course he chooses to do so.

Tenure is better than being a member of royalty. Royalty, at least, has to perform on occasion.

I think a drastic reduction in the state support of Liberal Arts/Social Science majors would be one answer. We need more Tech types, and are overloaded with Psy majors.

I was quite pleased tonight at dinner when I asked my daughter, who is a junior, what she thinks she might want to major in when in college.
