Hi Ed

I thought it was around 70 US lives not 100, and for that matter the "thousands" of insurgents is probably hoakie anyway. In terms of the end objective I think it was tactically stupid to go into Fallujah precisely because killing a few thousand more Iraqis hardly makes anything better. But that is the solution being chased for the forseable future.

Rhodesia, under Ian Smith, was safe and prosperous, and many black Rhodesians knew full well that things would likely be worse with black rule. In fact, while under sanctions and white rule, Africans from the neighboring countries found employment in Rhodesia, and sent their money home to support families in their poorer black ruled nations. None the less, when the chance came to vote Mugabe into power (whose terror organization had killed and terrorised more blacks than whites) he won by a landslide. And the country has not done very well since.

The only real hope I see for Iraq is to change the USA's boot in you back approach. But I don't think it will happen...
