Doc,
Your comment about the ant reminded me of another great and thought provoking book. "The Secret Life of Plants"

The part about Cleve Backster is some heavy stuff...as they say, "Strange, but true." Hard to believe that plants have emotions.

Re: the ant is our friend as the leading turner of soil and leading predator on insects.

Really? For decades I've come to understand and never seen disputed that in temperate climates and prime agricultural areas, worms and their castings are the leading turners of soil (excepting 12 bottom plows, of course), and that birds are the most voracious predators on insects, albeit bats have a close ranking on insect predation.

Where do you get your data?

On the matter of James Watson and Rosalind Franklin, the case is obvious. Watson is a fraud. Just as much as the purported designer of the Golden Gate Bridge, the politically savvy Joseph Strauss, simply hired the real talent and kept the fame for himself:

And don't get me started on Christopher Columbus and his fraudulent claims..... you can read about this charlatan and slaver in Howard Zinn's "The People's History of the United States". It's perhaps my #1 choice of non-fiction books of the 20th Century.

along those lines, I had the pleasure of befriending this man:

He was contemporary with that crowd and quite interesting in his own right. I recommend an examination of his website.
