In its honor, as a wily bit of seditious populism, I bring you the latest from the new "Prairie Fire" series on Progressive Populism. Spreading across the nation there is "low power, high bandwidth FM radio" revolution in the making. Here's a glimpse of the future: ^^^^^^^^^^ RUSH TRANSCRIPT: "The ROWDY RAY RADIO ROUNDUP, April 1, 2004 -- Caller mentions Martha Stewart. Host replies: RRRR: MARTHA! You remember Martha. How could you forget Martha? The media won't let you. But what is it about Martha? Why have the mass media people decided that she can be made such an example of? Well, for one thing, she's a Democrat. That's right. Martha Stewart is a Democrat. If that isn't reason enough for Karl Rove to send someone to jail, then what is? Well, MARTHA had the audacity to make..... (beats his fingers on desk in mocking imitation of Rush Limbaugh).... Martha had the audacity to CONTRIBUTE MONEY to the DEMOCRATS! Now I ask you, fellow Americans, is this loyal, is this patriotic, is this reason to send Martha to prison? These are questions you'll have to answer on your own. I'm not here to be partisan. I'm here to help share what I've observed. And I have to tell you, people, what I've observed is that we don't have any good old-fashioned debates on radio like we used to in the 1930s when American radio personalities were discussing whether the U.S. could best save itself by going Fascist or going Communist because the old, tired Capitalist game had totally collapsed around our heads. Now, today, granted, we aren't in the midst of Great Depression. No, we've wisely gotten 30% of the population on Prozac so that depression is a thing of the past. But what we have got is a whole lot of nuttin'. We've got a media that obsesses over whether Lacie Peterson was an "innie" or an "outie". We've got a media that fails to report to you that Martha Stewart is the scapegoat for corporate sins which Republican sinners never want to pay for. In short, we've got a mess on our hands. Not that this is the first time. Not that the American people haven't risen up by the million in the past and made the changes that were necessary . And, ladies and gentlemen, today would be soon enough for us to get started on making some of those changes. For example. Why is low-power FM low power? Because some MEN BEHIND THE CURTAIN make it so. Gee Willikers, shouldn't us ordinary people have the right use all the electricity behind the Grand Coulee Dam to make our voices heard? Think about it. We can afford a 1,000,000 watt signal to spread truth across America, but we can't afford to pay off the politicians who are telling us we can't. If that isn't a pathetic assessment of where we stand as a nation, I don't know what is. With that, I leave Martha in prison, and you in the lurch. Or rather, the politicians are leaving you in the lurch, and me in the control room. That may be dangerous for politicians. Good evening, and GOD HELP AMERICA!
