You know, the founding fathers get credit for getting a lot of things right, but they sure left this issue murky. They talk about God and separation of church and state in the same breath. I personally think this is one thing they left messy. I don't think it was left all that murky. Separation of church and state has been the MO for over 200 years. Periodically, however, the more religious members of our society want to mix the two. And its not just here........most European countries, particularly the Catholic ones, have had similar problems keeping the gov't separate from religion.
