James, for a change I agree with all you have written but I don't think you should be so pessimistic.

A gold price around $500 is reasonable and would probably satisfy most people except "end-of-the-world" enthusiasts. In fact, if the dollar steadies itself POG could fall a bit. A rise in the USD would also please Europe, Japan, Australia and other countries which have been struggling to export with their strongly revalued currencies.
