<I'm delighted by your post in general. It's one of the most sensible things you've written in ages. >

Heck, that was easy Ray. Okay, send the money [the average donation is US$1000] and you're in as a fully-fledged acolyte.

Hmmm, on reflection, it seems a bit weird to have you in the kneeling brigade. I quite miss the vituperation. If we all agree, who's on the lookout for the sneaky things? The unknown unknowns of which I'm blissfully unaware.

As you say, Mossad and the CIA are capable of any barbarism if considered essential for national security and profits [and maybe even just for the fun of it and to show who's boss - the old alpha-male drive].

But I don't think Margaret Hassan's murder fits into that category. However, you make a good point that the Islamic Jihadists are not uniformaly barbarous. Many times they have treated women captives in a civil way and subsequently released them. Private Lynch for example was not maltreated and the USA armed forces made clowns of themselves over her "heroic rescue" and her "heroism". She wasn't heroic. She was scared witless and was a helpless girl.

However, not all Americans are barbarians who abuse prisoners either.

You are right that demonizing the terrorists/insurgents is normal procedure. Similarly, Americans are demonized by the Islamic Jihad freedom-fighters. Remember when the USA used to support the mujahadeen, including Osama, against Gorby who was occupying Afghanistan [he inherited the problem]? How ironical. Now Osama has turned on them and is freedom-fighting against the USA occupation of Iraq.

Personally, I thought Saddam had a good case to argue that Kuwait should be part of Iraq. In the dog eat dog world, which we have, it made sense for him to take it over, and also it makes sense for the USA to take over Iraq [and Kuwait and Syria and Iran and Afghanistan and what the heck, Saudi Arabia and throw in Lebanon too]. But I'd prefer to have the end of empire and a reconstituted United Nations to put an end to the militaristic MADness of alpha-males, with people operating on liberal principles. pdf 114 pages or so: liberalvalues.org.nz
