Actually, I am a member of the National Psoriasis foundation; psoriasis.org . While their message boards at this site are for members only, I can tell you the following: The NPF member community now generally accepts that Rativa is a "bad" drug. Everyone knows someone who went through hell on it. There is a thread there called "Raptiva Sucks" with at least 10 Raptiva horror stories from different memebers, all strikingly similar. There is currently also a new poll of Raptiva users on the boards, asking how many contracted psoriatic arthritis within 4 months of using the drug. The results so far would shock you; I'll wait until the poll is closed to report final numbers - but its a solid majority of respondants at this point. My dermatologist, a major researcher and leader in the field, has stopped prescribing Raptiva due to the number of his patients with adverse events. He does have some patients still on Raptiva, but will start no on else on it. I'm telling you, this drug is bad news. A lot of people are having to get on Enbrel and methotrexate because of Raptiva. And nearly anyone who goes off of it becomes covered in gutate psoriasis for weeks; even if they never had this form of the disease. Often, this will start while the patient is still on the Raptiva, often leading to erythrodermic psoriasis as well. Enbrel, Humira and Remicade are all much, much more effective at treating psoriasis. And if you are wondering why the the psoriatic arthritis study of Raptiva was halted... well, I've a very good idea why they pulled the plug after only 12 weeks. If you want me to copy and paste some of the Raptiva horror stories here, I can. Just my two experienced cents. I have no position in XOMA.
