<I see a lot of this too. Toss in the fact that home prices have risen unrelentingly and the lemming in you is hooked. Never mind that owning a home plays such a small part
in overall quality of life. >

In bubble markets there are lots of lovely homes and condos for rent at very reasonable prices these days and your weekends are free from maintenance, total monthly costs are much lower and usually much shorter commutes to work. A perception that the only way to get ahead in these days of a sputtering economy is with real estate has only added additional fuel to the fire of this mania. It is so ironic that this is happening in an era where the Republican party has complete control and yet the business climate has been fairly dismal.
