It's easy to pick out one reason why he lost, when actually it was a bunch of reasons. I think the swifty thing was a turning point, he had some momentum then, and it left some people with a little less trust.

It was more than one issue, i am just mentioning the one against which he lost no matter what he did. If he fought back the swifties got more news, if he didn't, it seemed like implicit guilt. It sucks...but that's what they did.

Then the turning against the war in the primaries, to beat Dean, only to have to retreat later to close the gap with bush...opening himself up to more criticism.

The amazing thing is that he came as close to winning as he did against an incumbent. To me, this reveals about how poorly the bush is thought of.

I think for 10% - 20% of the voters it's a beauty contest, and Bush looked better than Kerry.

I agree and disagree at the same time: IMO Kerry looked just too good! I mean that pristine hair style of his really got on my nerves and eventually I just hoped to see him once with his hair messed up a little, looking like somebody being more concerned about getting things done as opposed to being busy just looking like Mr. Perfect.

Just imagine, messing up his hair just a little bit and he could have taken Ohio...
