I bet. Transportation is a one time cost, though. Heating chicken coops is an ongoing expense - day in, day out. Chickens are mature at six months. At 5 mi/gal and 1500 mile trip (halfway across the country), that's $700 just for diesel plus the driver, of course. If slaughtered near where they are grown, that's some savings. How many miles does the average chicken travel, I wonder?
