Do you mean stop and resart the service? You may require a recovery after it finishes.

What size is the transaction log set at? Did you set your grow or shrink transaction log setting appropriately before starting the shrink? If not, you should see no gains.

Are all processes local to your server farm, or are you rebuilding across the WAN or some other form external network resource?
