I can walk up to them to about 50 feet, once I was on my john Deere lawn/mower/tractor and got with in 10 feet before they bolted. I turned around to see my two labs going after them(my wife let them out) I wonder how close I could of got? They couldn't figure out what this loud green thing was.

Yeah we have them around here as well. They don't seem too concerned with things going on in town. But if you move in their direction they'll hit the bricks pretty quick.

There is a town in SE Oregon - Joseph - that has a wildlife refuge. It's at the South end of Lake Wallowa, in an area of summer and year-round cottages. There are about 50-75 deer that live there unmolested. It's a kick to watch them - they'll lie on the grass in front of cabins and not even move when people walk 10' from them.

I saw some yahoos who broke out some food in the vicinity of a big buck at the State Park, and it chased them trying to get the food until they jumped into the bed of a pickup.
