With 55 billion dollars socked away and searching for reasons to spend it, I wouldn't count Microsoft out. But the trend toward google is unmistakable. They have been firing on target with a laser machine gun for quite some time. One big blunder and they could go down the path of Netscape though. In a strange way, that's one of the main reasons they need to get bigger and even bolder but biting into the Linux pie.

Take it from me. I have been using computers since before most people arround here have been born. I have always been ahead of the curve in this regard. And, I have always been wrong.

I didn't think DEC or Wang Computers could ever compete with IBM. When I finally bought into DEC and Wang (and found their utility), I said who would ever buy an Apple or use Microsoft DOS when I was using a PDP 8 and Wang Word Processor.

When Linux first came out with the concept of "open source" software, I said to myself who would pay for Microsoft OS when millions of programmers would be contributing to open source software and providing OS for free.

What do I know?
