<why do I need a megabit upstream as a consumer? Why would I replace a popular and refined 1X air interface with WiMax without a solid business case?>

Hi Quincy. People like speed. People pay a LOT of money so their car can go 0 - 100 in 5.4 seconds and they prefer than to 0 - 100 in 10 seconds or 6.7 seconds. Seconds matter. Our lives are made up of seconds and when we have to hang around waiting for a traffic light to turn green when there's nothing coming and the seconds are ticking by, it's very annoying.

When our dopey cyberphone gives us the "Please Wait" message and sits there gradually trundling a video clip or adjusted spread-sheet, or email, or something, we get impatient because our lives are being frittered away. Unless we get some countervailing benefit, such as more secure data or a cheaper connection, we will choose a service which will do 0 - 100 mph in 1 second.

Another aspect is we don't want latency. When we say something, we don't want to be over-riding what the other person is saying. When we are having a chat on Skype, with video running, we don't want a jerky, slow, high-latency link. We want the thing humming.
