It seems to me that what is important about this phenomenon is not whether or not there is pressure among black students or any other students against scholastic achievement but the fact that the label put on it by black students is "acting white" rather than treating it as simply geeky or snobbish. Racializing in that way a behavior that is not unique to blacks is key, not the behavior itself, which, as asserted, the counter-culture attitude occurs across the board.
