One word of caution on Firefox. It's not well documented. So don't stray too far off the beaten path. And you're entirely on your own with those extensions. That and the fact that my history sidebar takes an incredibly long time to load are my only complaints. Otherwise I'm tickled about having discovered it.

I resized the search engine window as Kholt suggested - wow! My screen is 17 inches wide, so now my URL window and the search engine window can be any size up to 14 inches - I've got them each about 7 inches wide.

Google has a neat new Beta function, searching in catalogues. Last night I used it to search for Virginia bluebell (mertensia virginica) plants or bulbs. For that search, looking in the catalogues was much better than froogle. Then tried looking for Siberian Iris Caesar's Brother -- did not find any of those, and regular froogle was better for that. No idea why but it's nice to have both.

I see google is now beta-testing a search engine limited to scholarly papers. That should be useful.
