Au contraire. It is you who are short of facts. You just finished saying that Democrats were in power when the surpluses were created and I proved you wrong. Republicans were. Yes, and the president at that time was working with them to reduce the budget deficit, and together they pulled it off. Now we have the reverse with the GOP Congress once again following the lead of the current president. Sure Bush is in power now and the current Republicans in Congress were lulled into voting alot of the surpluses away just as the Democrats were, in the aftermath of 9/11. Lulled away? When will you all stop making excuses for these people? Pork is at the highest level in two decades. No one is twisting their arms to create the pork..........they are doing it all on their own. Remember that famous line of Kerry's, "I voted against the war, right after I voted for it." Even the Democrats were duped. So I lay the blame for the disappearence of the surplus mostly at the hangover from the 90's and to Bush's refusal to tighten the belt in response to shrinking reveneus. But fiscal irresponsibility is not a Republican ideal. It may not have been originally but since WW II, you could have fooled us: zfacts.com
